Ruth SCHULTE-SUTRUM, étudiante allemande en ERASMUS à l’Isara

Un ami a fait un Erasmus ici et a eu une très bonne expérience. C’était comme un rêve pour moi de venir étudier et suivre un programme en français. J’ai donc demandé un Erasmus à l’Isara pour un semestre et je l’ai obtenu. C’est un très gros défi pour moi de suivre le programme en français mais je suis motivé.

J’ai commencé à étudier le développement international à l’Université de Wageningen aux Pays-Bas. J’ai ensuite fait une année de bénévolat à l’étranger, au Ghana, liée au développement rural. J’ai ensuite fait un master sur l’agriculture durable internationale, avec une spécialisation en agro-industrie, à l’Université de Göttingen.

A l’Isara, je suis la spécialisation SITER, développement rural durable. Nous travaillons sur le territoire et les systèmes alimentaires durables et toutes les problématiques concernées. Nous sommes 29 étudiants, ce qui est formidable, car nous sommes à la fois proches des enseignants et des étudiants. C’est très bien structuré.

Pour mon projet professionel, je pense faire ma thèse dans une entreprise allemande spécialisée en produits biologiques du monde entier. Je travaillerai sur l’approvisionnement des produits. L’entreprise est soucieuse d’améliorer la traçabilité des produits alimentaires et de partager les informations sur la production et ses effets environnementaux avec les consommateurs.

Ma première impression de l’Isara et de Lyon ?

C’est tellement accueillant ! Les enseignants sont très ouverts à la discussion. Cela pousse les gens à penser sous tous les angles et dans de nombreuses directions.  La coopération avec les professionnels est une grande opportunité, car elle expose les étudiants à leur travail de perspective.

Au début, c’était difficile à cause de la langue. Il faut du temps pour s’installer. Mais j’ai mon vélo donc je suis contente. Je roule le long du Rhône tous les jours, la ville est magnifique. J’ai fait la montée de la Croix Rousse une fois, mais pas deux fois !!! L’accent français de certaines personnes semble assez drôle. »

 

Ruth SCHULTE-SUTRUM – Erasmus student following the specialization SITER

« I am from Germany. A friend did an Erasmus here and had a very good experience. It was like a dream for me to come to study and follow a programme in French. So I applied for an Erasmus at Isara for a semester and I got it. It’s a very big challenge for me to follow the programme in French but I am motivated.

I started to study International Development at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. Then I did a volunteer year abroad, in Ghana, linked with rural development. As agriculture is related, I decided to focus my master on International Sustainable Agriculture, with a specialisation on Agribusiness, at the University of Göttingen.

As part of my master, I did an internship of 6 months in Ghana, working for the German Development Cooperation. I came back in March to follow a semester in Göttingen and now I am in France. It’s a lot of travelling, but it gives me different experiences that will help me in my future career in this international field.

Here at Isara, I follow the specialization SITER, sustainable rural development. The topic is very well related to what I am studying. We work on territory, sustainable food systems and all issues concerned. We are 29 students which is great, because we are so close to the teachers and the students. It is very well structured. We have also a fieldtrip to Switzerland, I am very happy about that.

We are 3 international students, we support each other, because it takes a lot of energy to follow a course in French all day, especially the first days. But now, it’s becoming easier and easier.

My professionnal project?

First, I will do my thesis with a German company who source organic products from all over the world for a local distribution to specialty organic shops in Germany. They are concerned by sustainability, environmental and social impacts. I will work for the products supply. They are concerned with improving traceability of food products and sharing information on production and its environmental effects with the consumers.

My first impression of Isara and Lyon? It’s so welcoming ! It’s pretty great. The teachers are very open for discussion. It pushes people to think from all angles and to many directions. We also do a professional study. The cooperation with professionals is a great opportunity, because it exposes the students to their perspective work.

At the beginning, it was hard because of the language. It takes time to settle. But, I have my bicycle so I am happy. I ride along the Rhone every day, the city is beautiful. The French accent of some people sounds pretty funny. »
